Moisture from sweat, rain or "getting splashed accidently" are things that we can usually avoid by removing our hearing aids and putting them in a safe place when these threats are around.
But ... moisture from condensation is unavoidable ...
Wearing your hearing aids in a heated car then getting out into the cold, ... or going from an air-conditioned room to the outside heat ... the air trapped in the hearing aids will form condensation-droplets of water-formed from the sudden shift in temperatures...
These droplets-as small as they are-will corrode wiring, connections and attack the moving parts of your hearing aids' microphones and speakers.
Sometimes, the hearing aids will "die" immediately ... other times, the hearing aids will sound "weak" .. and at all times, the devastating effect is long term damage to the delicate electrical parts of your hearing aids.
Different methods have been developed over the years with the most common being placing your hearing aids in a small container with dessicant granules, closing the top and hoping the moisture will be reduced..at least some so the aid will work.
Unfortunately, this passive method is slow, unreliable and bothersome. Bothersome, because you are required to reheat the dessicant granules over and over again to dry them out. Slow and unrealiable because, there is no way to actively attack the moisture!
Finally, a system to actively attack moisture in a timely manner was developed for the hearing healthcare professional .. Dry and Store.
